The Draft Draft Unitary Plan is being released publicly on 15 March 2013 and the consultation period will run for 6 to 8 weeks.

Milford Residents Association is hosting a meeting for our community to learn about the proposals for Milford in the draft Unitary Plan.  We have invited top planning staff from Council to explain the proposed changes, where Milford sits in the overall scheme of things and the reasons why.  We are not sure yet who will be attending but will let you know as soon as we can.

This is important stuff and will dictate how Milford evolves over the next 40 years.  As we all know, Auckland will continue to grow and Milford will of course absorb its share of that growth.

However, as PC34 has shown us, the growth strategies in the accumulated planning statements do not override all other considerations.  Milford has a long history of being a quiet, low maintenance suburb conveniently forgotten by various Councils except when tossed some ad hoc spending crumb.  This is probably why we enjoy no built civic infrastructure to support the high levels of residential intensification now being mooted.

Let's not sit quietly for the next twenty years forever wondering why Milford gets the short end of the straw.  Be informed and voice your opinion now.  We need to make sure we get the Milford we want.

We have promised the planners a substantial turnout of residents, so please don't let us down.  See you at the meeting on Thursday 4 April.

PS:  We changed the original date which was the Thursday before the Easter Weekend.
