MRA's first WAIRAU CREEK CLEAN UP
VOLUNTEERS PLEASE
Sunday, 14 August 9.30am to 11.30am (low tide 9.39am)
If you want to help, please email Glenys@milford.org.nz or phone her on 489 4378
This will be our first rubbish pick-up event for the head of the Wairau Estuary and is a test run for regular clean-ups. MRA committee members visited the area some weeks back and there is plenty of rubbish to be collected.
Our long-term goal is to enhance the ecology of the estuary and increase access to and appreciation of what is a hidden gem in the centre of Milford.
Volunteers will work in three teams collecting small items in re-usable bags. No heavy lifting required as large objects will be identified and Council will collect them later.
- Wear old clothes and sturdy footwear you are prepared to get wet and muddy. We have been advised that an old pair of walking shoes that can be laced up may be better than gumboots which can get stuck (and left behind) in the mud.
- We will provide re-usable gloves and collection bags – courtesy of Sustainable Coastlines.
- Sausage sizzle and hot and cold drinks at the end. (Thanks to Takapuna North Community Trust for the BBQ)
- Age 15 and over please. We hope to organise events suitable for younger children in the future.
Please register your details with Glenys who will send further details including where to meet.
MRA is working with and being funded by the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board to enhance public access to and awareness of the Wairau Estuary and its ecology as envisaged in the Milford Centre Plan.
